extra time is the time which is added in the game while the actual time of the game is finished (90minutes) . mainly extra time is added in the direction of referee which might be of four minutes or three minutes. this adding of three minutes and four minutes is done in each game of football but in knock out competition players play 30 minutes extra . in knock out competition one team should win the game in anyhow .in knock out game winner is decided so while the both team are not scoring in 90 minutes referee give more 15 minutes to score if they don't score in 30 minutes also then they are given chance to have penalty and score at last winner is decided with the help of extra time.to have penalty 5 members of each team are selected by coach and given chance to have penalty.
thus, extra time plays very important role in knock out game .it helps to decide winner of the matches .
